DIY Sunburn Cream

If you are like us and love getting out in the sun during the summer, this is something you will love. With summer coming to an end, we have been trying to make the most of the warmer days that we have left. But, with the long days in the sun comes that bright red glow on our skin that we are all familiar with, and let’s be honest, it’s not fun. We have found a combination of essential oils that you can make at home and can soothe that burning feeling quickly, as well as helping to speed up the healing process.

The Ingredients:

  • Lavender Essential Oil- is the perfect oil for soothing the burning feeling and promoting healing.
  • Peppermint Essential Oil- is a powerful oil for calming inflammation and has a bonus cooling effect that takes the heat out of the burn.
  • Aloe Vera Gel- is known worldwide for its natural healing properties and its ability to relieve pain and soothe inflamed tissue.
  • Coconut Oil- prevents scarring and infection while moisturizing the skin.

How to Make it:

First, you will need to combine a 1/4 cup Coconut Oil and a 1/4 cup Aloe Vera Gel in a large bowl. Be sure to mix this thoroughly using a mixer or blender will give you the best results. Next, add 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil and 12 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil, ensuring that they are well mixed. The last step is to put the mixture into a glass storage container to help extend the life of your new sunburn cream.

How to use it:

This cream should be applied to the burnt area as soon as possible and covered to allow it to work its magic. You can apply up to 3 times a day. Keep the leftover cream in the refrigerator to extend the life of it and add to the cooling effect when applied.
