Finding Our Way Back To Nature
Some wisdom is passed down through books. Other wisdom is lived, breathed, and passed from generation to generation through family kitchens and garden paths. For me, this deeper wisdom began in Guatemala, where my childhood was filled with the aromatic scents of mint, chamomile, and lemongrass growing wild. Natural ingredients woven into every aspect of our daily life.
When my husband Miguel—who was born in Mexico—and I came to America in 1977, we brought these traditions with us, though gradually we found ourselves swept up in modern conveniences. It wasn’t until 2004 that I felt a powerful calling to return to my roots. With the help of my mom and grandmom, we recreated old recipes and I began creating natural alternatives to every product that touched our skin—from soaps to lip balms, each crafted with the pure essential oils I remembered from my childhood.
Life’s Deepest Lessons
But life has a way of deepening our convictions through its hardest moments. In 2006, our six-year-old son Rafael was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Facing this mountain, we made profound changes to our family’s lifestyle, fully returning to nature’s wisdom. We eliminated processed foods, artificial cleaners, and synthetic products from our home. Though we couldn’t save our precious Rafael, we chose to honor him by creating a home filled with the gentle, natural care he deserved. His journey inspired the heart behind Natural Choice cleaning products.
Two years later, our twins Javier and Santiago were born prematurely with Down syndrome—they were so tiny, just 3lbs and 4lbs—and while the first few years were extremely tough as we helped our beautiful boys fight to become strong and healthy, our commitment to natural living grew too. Their sensitive skin, like some of their siblings, responded best to our gentlest formulations, including our handmade essential oil soaps.

These experiences taught us something profound: there’s wisdom in simplicity and power in purity. The same natural ingredients that enhanced my ancestors’ daily lives still offer their gifts today. But we also learned that too many families can’t access pure, natural products because artificial markups and elaborate packaging make them unaffordable for most.
